Excess Mortality in England during the 2019 Summer Heatwaves

چکیده

There is increasing evidence that rising temperatures and heatwaves in the United Kingdom are associated with an increase heat-related mortality. However, Public Health England (PHE) Heatwave mortality monitoring reports, which use provisional death registrations to estimate during heatwaves, have not yet been evaluated. This study aims retrospectively quantify impact of on 2019 summer period using daily occurrences. Second, same method, it quantifies for 2018 2017 heatwave periods. Last, compares results estimated excess deaths PHE reports. The number cumulative were minimal (161) substantially lower than (1700 deaths) (1489 deaths). All findings at variance reports be 892, 863 778 periods 2019, 2017, respectively. Issues identified reduced reliability Office National Statistics (ONS) occurrences database before 2019. These may identify more reliable ways monitor heat future.

Calculate excess mortality during heatwaves using Hilbert-Huang transform algorithm

BACKGROUND Heatwaves could cause the population excess death numbers to be ranged from tens to thousands within a couple of weeks in a local area. An excess mortality due to a special event (e.g., a heatwave or an epidemic outbreak) is estimated by subtracting the mortality figure under 'normal' conditions from the historical daily mortality records. The calculation of the excess mortality is a...

Attribution of mortality to the urban heat island during heatwaves in the West Midlands, UK

BACKGROUND The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect describes the phenomenon whereby cities are generally warmer than surrounding rural areas. Traditionally, temperature monitoring sites are placed outside of city centres, which means that point measurements do not always reflect the true air temperature of urban centres, and estimates of health impacts based on such data may under-estimate the impac...
